What A Pit BBQ... It is not just a business; it is a place where we share our love of family through the flavors of great BBQ. Hi, my name is Jerome Furnace Jr., and I am the owner and pitmaster here at What A Pit BBQ. As long as I can remember, I have been cooking BBQ with my grandfather and uncles since the tender age of 6. This is where BBQ whole hog, ribs, and chicken have become more of a rite of passage than just a regular day of cooking. This is where standing around the cinder block pit in Marion, SC, and smelling the aroma of great BBQ, as well as sharing the aromas of our sweet family history, has become more of a tradition that has been passed down through generations. And with that knowledge of love, I have now become one of the premier BBQ pitmasters in the state of South Carolina, winning competitions and winning people's hearts. I am now the 2025 reigning champion of the largest Black barbecue competition in South Carolina and now hold the title of the most decorated pitmaster at that competition. I have also won other major competitions. I have recorded wins in the SBN and in the SCBA, etc. This is not the end. It is our goal here at What A Pit BBQ to bring plates of food to your table that will start a conversation, that will lead to a question, that will lead back to the renewing of a family tradition.
